Yerevan/Mediamax/. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan called "Turkey’s decision to edit its own history” by which the centenary of the Battle of Gallipoli will be marked on Armenian Genocide Centennial "short-sighted and cynical”.

Serzh Sargsyan stated it at the session of the State Commission on Coordination of the events dedicated to the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

He also touched upon Turkish President’s invitation to him.

“After receiving this indecent invitation, I found it necessary to send a public and prompt response to Recep Erdogan as the invitation would apparently be misunderstood and wrongly interpreted by the international media and community. I believe my answer as well as the responses it received internationally and in Turkey itself prove the futility of this miscounted step”, said the President.

Serzh Sargsyan also touched upon “Perincek v. Switzerland” case at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

“They are attempting to turn Dogu Perincek’s case into a matter of the court’s legal views on the Armenian Genocide. However, we don’t think the case is about the legal recognition or denial of the Armenian Genocide. As a state of Genocide surviving people, we have not appealed to the court with such a request. And we neither think that the overt answer to be given to this question is under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights”, stressed the President.
