Yerevan /Mediamax/. U.S.-Armenian bilateral defense meetings will be held in Yerevan, on December 19.

The achievements registered over the previous period will be summed up at the meetings and the prospects of further cooperation will be set, Mediamax reports.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Dr. Evelyn Farkas and the delegation headed by her arrived in Armenia to take part in the bilateral meetings. The delegation includes officials from the U.S. Defense Secretary Office, European Command in the U.S., Kansas National Guard and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan met with Evelyn Farkas and U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern today.

During the meeting, the parties hailed the current stage of the bilateral cooperation, which is implemented in basically two directions – provision of Armenia’s international security and development of peacekeeping compatible competences and the provision of professional consultations for the reforms being implemented in the defense sphere.

Armenian Defense Minister noted that the opportunities recently expanded in the U.S. military educational institutions and training centers for the education as well as individual and subdivision trainings of Armenian soldiers play a huge role in the training of the personnel, but clear measures should be taken in order to establish peacekeeping competences in Armenia.

Dr. Farkas thanked the Armenian party for their huge contribution to ensuring international security and stated that the current cooperation spheres are mutually beneficial but there are broader prospects to enhance them.
