Yerevan /Mediamax/. Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly, RPA MP Artak Zakaryan said today Armenia will sign the Common Economic Space document being worked out on the basis of the Customs Union.

Artak Zakaryan said after the document is signed and the inter-state procedures are successfully completed, Armenia will become founding member of Common Economic Space, Mediamax reports.

“Armenia’s Customs Union procedure is effectively moving forward and is not being delayed. There are issues of inter-state character and refer to the juxtaposing of the economic interests of other countries”, pointed out Artak Zakaryan.

According to the Deputy, Armenia’s Common Economic Space membership will allow having a more effective economic environment, establishing relations with new markets and realizing customs-free commercial ties.

At the same time, Artac Zakaryan assured that Armenia’s Custom’s Union membership will not restrict Armenia’s trade relations with third countries.

“Armenia is going to join an economic and not a political union. The decision to join the union was based on issues related to economic, procurement and energy security. It does not imply restrictions on Armenia’s sovereign decisions. We will keep on building relations with third countries in the way we have done so far”, said the MP.

According to him, official Yerevan is interested in continuing and strengthening cooperation with EU in humanitarian, cultural, democratic and reform areas. According to him, a task force studying the prospects of further cooperation areas with EU is already set up.
