Yerevan /Mediamax/. Tonight Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is leaving for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on a working visit.

As the presidential press-service reports, the Armenian President will take part in the meeting of the leaders of NATO states as well as partner countries and governments participating in NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan in Newport on September 4. The meeting will be held within the framework of NATO Summit. Serzh Sargsyan will address a speech there.

The outcome of the International Security Assistance Force mission will be summed up at this last meeting in NATO-ISAF format and the areas of “Sustainable Assistance” new mission will be marked.

Having participated in that international mission since 2010 and having disposed a detachment of up to 126 soldiers within the international forces, Armenia has had its contribution to the international collective efforts aimed at maintaining security and national solidarity in Afghanistan and is committed to continuing its participation within the new mission.

On the evening of September 4, on behalf of Prince of Wales Charles, a reception will be given for the participants and an unofficial supper in honor of leaders of the participating states and international organizations.

Mediamax recalls that Armenia took part in NATO Summit 2012 in Chicago at FM level. Back then the Armenian President decided not to take part in the summit because of the ambiguous formulations in the draft declaration. In particular, a general formulation on the settlements of conflicts in the South Caucasus was made in the draft declaration which used to contradict to the approaches of OSCE Minsk Group co-Chairs holding an intermediary mandate in Karabakh conflict resolution.

According to the data of Mediamax, Armenia’s participation was being delayed this year as well and it was accounted by the clarification of certain conflict-related provisions found in the declaration text of Wales.
