Yerevan /Mediamax/. NATO said it was pleased with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s participation in Wales Summit.

Commenting on the Armenian President’s participation in NATO Summit in Wales upon Mediamax’s request, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai said:

“NATO, and I personally, was pleased that President Sargsyan could participate in the NATO Summit last week. NATO and Armenia have developed substantial practical cooperation over the past year. Your country's forces are currently contributing to our operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo. Armenia stands ready to contribute in principle to the non-combat mission in Afghanistan, which we will start at the beginning of next year. And shortly before the summer, NATO and Armenia have agreed a new NATO-Armenia Individual Partnership Action Plan for 2015 and 2016”.

“But we also want to see this practical cooperation complemented with substantial political dialogue. That is why we invited President Sargsyan to our meeting on Afghanistan. And that is also why we invited Defence Minister Ohanyan to the meeting of the new Interoperability Platform.  I think their participation in Wales, at a pivotal moment in Euro-Atlantic security, was a very effective way to make sure Armenia's voice is heard on security issues of common concern", said NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative to Mediamax.

Mediamax recalls that the Armenian President took part in the Summit of Presidents and Prime Ministers of partner states of International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) and NATO  member states where he addressed a speech.
