Yerevan /Mediamax/. Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, Head of the Armenian Delegation to the NATO PA, National Assembly MP Koryun Nahapetyan said today that it is important for Armenia that NATO and Russia “maintain the dialog channel”.

As Mediamax reports, Koryun Nahapetyan stated it at “Impact of NATO Summit on Armenia and South Caucasus” discussion in Yerevan today.

“Armenia’s foreign policy is not based on making a choice between NATO and Russia. Armenia is clearly aware of its national security imperatives. Armenia’s Customs Union membership decision should not be viewed as a factor reducing or reprieving the productivity of ties with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization”, said the MP of ruling RPA faction.

According to Nahapetyan, Armenia will continue its complementary policy attempting to find more effective cooperation ways with all concerned partners, relying on its own security interests and fulfilling its international commitments.

“Every country has a right to choose its security system by itself; however, at the same time we believe that the choice should not spark additional security-related issues, tension or clashes between both the countries in the region and the international security systems”, the MP pointed out.

He added that the Armenian President’s participation in NATO Wales Summit comes to reaffirm official Yerevan’s readiness to develop partnership relations with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
