Armenian President to meet Pope Francis

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Today President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan will leave for Vatican on an official visit during which he will have meetings with Pope Francis and Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The Armenian President will open “Parable of the East. Christianity Facing Millennium Challenges” photo exhibition at Vittoriano Museum Complex in Rome.

 

Serzh Sargsyan will also pay a visit to the Basilica of St. Bartholomew which preserves 20th and 21st materials regarding the martyrdom for faith, as well as materials about the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

 

The Armenian President will visit the permanent exhibition of medieval Armenian khachkar (cross-stone) in Vatican museums.

 

On March 19, 2013, the Armenian President attended the enthronement ceremony of Pope Francis in Vatican. Back then, Serzh Sargsyan pointed out that “St. Peter’s throne has been mounted by the friend of Armenian people who is well aware of the Armenian culture and history and has repeatedly proved it during his activities in Argentina”.
