Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has said today that Armenia is committed to take steps with EU partners to create a new legal basis for the relations.

Serzh Sargsyan stated this during his speech at EU Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga.

“Armenia is committed to take steps with EU partners to create a new legal basis for the relations which will on the one hand reflect the content of Armenia’s previous talks with EU and will on the other hand be compatible with commitments stemming from our involvement in other integration processes, particularly our membership to the Eurasian Economic Union”, said the Armenian President stressing the importance of reconfirmation of “more for more” principle.

According to Serzh Sargsyan, Armenia considers Eastern Partnership as format for deepening cooperation with the EU, encouraging people to people contacts and developing targeted sectoral cooperation.

“Over this period, strengthening of collaboration with the EU has boosted our countries efforts to modernize our country based on principles of democracy, human rights and rule of law. It has also considerably contributed to enhancing civil society”, said the Armenian President.

He also touched upon Nagorno Karabakh conflict highlighting the importance of principle of people’s right of self-determination besides the territorial integrity.

“After all, if territorial integrity were the only rule of the game, representatives of so many countries wouldn’t just be sitting at this table today- as there wouldn’t merely be so many countries”, added Serzh Sargsyan.
