Yerevan /Mediamax/. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry "thinks U.S. Department of State’s politicizing each case in the republic which in reality is committed by definite perpetrators intervention in the country’s domestic affairs”.

“At the same time, the U.S. Department of State pretends it doesn’t notice the incidents causing discontentment going on in the region including the severe beatings and arrests of peaceful demonstrators. It in fact is another vivid example of double standards”, said Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hikmet Hajiyev to Trend, commenting on the U.S. Department of State’s statement on Azerbaijan. 

“In democratic Azerbaijan, supremacy of law is fully ensured and no one is persecuted for their political views and activities”, said Hajiyev.

“It’s weird that the U.S Department of State is never “deeply concerned” about mass violation of rights of more than a million of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons whose fundamental rights were violated as a result of Armenia’s aggression”, noted the official representative of the Azerbaijani MFA.

According to him, “the U.S. positions itself as “global human rights defender” against the background of the police violence spreading all over the country, systematic cases of race discrimination, long-term arrests without court trials, tortures in Guantanamo detention camp, wiretapping operations inside the country and even against the closest allies”.
