Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian stated today that Armenia is interested in the change of the status quo in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Edward Nalbandian said this during a press conference in Yerevan with Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom who is in Armenia with a work visit.

Baku continues to insist that Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs are not interested in changing the status quo.

“Armenia, as well as co-chairs, are interested in the status quo change. However, Azerbaijan is responsible for it, because the status quo can be achieved through negotiations”, said Armenian FM.

He said, “Azerbaijan has invented that the Minsk Group co-chairs proposal on the introduction of a mechanism for investigating incidents on the border is aimed at maintaining the status quo, while this proposal will help to relieve the tension, about which international community talked about several times”.

Edward Nalbandian doesn’t think that it’s new for Azerbaijan to criticize and accuse the co-chairs.

Earlier Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that Baku is dissatisfied with the work of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, “which has not achieved any progress in the Karabakh conflict settlement process throughout its existence”.

“It is not a unique case when Baku uses inappropriate expressions in the spirit of international cooperation against the co-chairs. Azerbaijan believes that such simplistic statements can blackmail the mediators. It is surprising that Azerbaijan does not learn from the past. We hope that Azerbaijan will finally realize that this behavior does not give them any advantage”, said Armenian Foreign Minister.
