The U.S. considers defense cooperation with Armenia important, official says

Yerevan /Mediamax/. The U.S. considers the strengthening of cooperation in the sphere of defense with Armenia important.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia Evelyn Farkas stated it at the meeting with Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian held in Yerevan, today.

 

Edward Nalbandian noted with content that U.S.-Armenian partnership in various spheres, including defense and security, had been dynamically developing over the past years and that there were prospects to expand it.

 

Evelyn Farkas stated that the U.S. considers cooperation development in the defense sphere with Armenia important, mentioning that her visit is aimed at its strengthening.

 

Issues related to Armenia’s participation in the international peacekeeping actions were discussed at the meeting, and the importance of Armenia’s contribution to the peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo was stressed.

 

Armenia-NATO relations were also discussed. Armenian FM touched upon issues related to Armed Forces control in the region, particularly, the importance of modernizing the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
