Yerevan /Mediamax/. Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif said in Yerevan today that official Tehran supports the peace process of conflicts in the Southern Caucasus and their settlement in conformity with the norms and principles of international law.

“As Armenia’s neighboring country, Iran is for the establishment of peace and friendship between all countries in the region. We hope current conflicts will have peaceful settlement. We stand ready to support, for the settlement of those issues to achieve positive results”, said Mohammad Javad Zarif at the joint press conference with Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian.

During earlier negotiations the FMs of both countries also discussed NK conflict settlement and recent developments.

Commenting on Azerbaijani President’s Davos statement on that the same international law norms should be applied to the settlement of all conflicts around the world, Edward Nalbandian said: “Ilham Aliyev’s statement gives the impression there are international law principles and norms and apart from that there is their Azerbaijani perception”.

“It should be recalled that the basic principles of the international law – refraining from the threat or use of force, territorial integrity and self-determination of peoples – lie in the basis of the NK conflict settlement proposals put forward by Co-Chair countries. In response to the calls of the Co-Chair countries, Armenia has repeatedly confirmed its commitment to the settlement of the conflict based solely on those principles, while Azerbaijan has not voiced its stance on the principles of the international law”, said Edward Nalbandian.
