Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said today that establishment of new formats and task forces should be avoided as it can harm the Co-Chairs efforts and NK peace process.

He said this addressing a joint press conference with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn and commenting on PACE Special Rapporteur for Political Affairs, author of “Growth of Violence in Nagorno Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan” report Robert Walter’s visit to Azerbaijan.

Edward Nalbandian particularly pointed out the reporters who Azerbaijan as a conflicting side constantly expresses gratitude to for their continuing support which according to the Minister evokes questions of partiality.

The Armenian FM expressed the confidence that the Co-Chairs also share this approach.

Johannes Hahn said in his turn that in the NK conflict, status quo is unacceptable for the EU.

“Peaceful settlement of the conflict is still among the list of our priorities and we will touch upon the issue as the current situation is not satisfactory from the European viewpoint”, noted the EU Commissioner.

According to him, the EU supports the negotiations mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group and encourages further dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan including on the level of presidents.

“It’s important to strongly respect the ceasefire and show restraint in actions and statements creating an environment auspicious for the settlement of the conflict”, said Johannes Hahn.
