Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian has stated that all the international efforts toward NK peace process should be taken within the format of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and in line with their approaches.

The Armenian FM said this at the UN Headquarters in New York, during the Ministerial meeting devoted to the OSCE peacekeeping missions on October 1.

“The Minsk Group Co-Chairs are assisted by the team led by the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office which is the only permanent presence on the conflict zone and it monitors maintaining of the ceasefire. It’s beyond doubt that strengthening this presence means bolstering the organization’s capacities to contribute to the peace and strengthening of the ceasefire on the contact line and borders”, said Edward Nalbandian.

The Armenian FM stressed that the format and possible stationing of the peacekeeping operations should be defined and guided by political solutions. According to him, it’s been stated on various occasions that international guarantees of security including peacekeeping operations are one of the key elements of the NK peace process.

“The actions are aimed at division of the armed forces in case of the political settlement of the conflict and maintaining of peace. Not a single other mandate or component including police activity is envisaged in this case”, explained Edward Nalbandian.

The Minister stressed that the conflicts in the common OSCE region might be essentially different and there are no universal recipes for conflict resolution.

“We should work out individual approaches for each situation to avoid jeopardizing or intervening the current processes within the concerted formats”, noted Edward Nalbandian.

The Armenian FM recalled that Yerevan was going to host an international conference on peacekeeping missions with participation of the UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Missions Edmon Mulet next week.
