Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Government approved today the draft law conclusion on “Recognition of the Republic of Artsakh” which will be presented at Armenian National Assembly.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan, the adoption of the “Recognition of the Republic of Artsakh” draft law presented by MPs of National Assembly Zaruhi Postanjyan and Hrant Bagratyan is conditioned by the results of the discussions between Armenia and Artsakh, taking into consideration future developments, including external factors.

It is noted in the foundation of the draft law approval that “The Republic of Armenia recognizes the Republic of Artsakh given the fact that the Republic of Artsakh as a subject of decolonization in the USSR gained independence in accordance with the international law and USSR legal standards as other republics of the Union, particularly based on the right of self-determination of peoples, and the fact that the Republic of Artsakh is an established independent state today.”

In case the draft law is adopted by the National Assembly, it will become a basis for further regulations of relations between Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh following the official recognition of Artsakh.

It is noticed in the draft law that “In order to resist the publicly documented and overlooked military threat from the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh guarantee the security of the people of Artsakh and its territorial integrity in case of any actions or open aggression against the Republic of Artsakh. Nevertheless, Armenia doesn’t exclude the possibility of a different status of Artsakh by adoption of this draft law, if the will of the people of Artsakh is expressed and proved by a public vote. Should the people of Artsakh make an according decision, the Republic of Armenia will contribute to its realization.”
