Yerevan /Mediamax/. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan will leave for Belgium on a working visit today to take part in the European People's Party (EPP) Summit in Brussels.

The Armenian President will also have a private meeting with EPP President Joseph Daul.

Mediamax notes that Serzh Sargsyan attended the plenary meeting of the European People's Party in Dublin on March 6.

In his speech the Armenian President said that “the European Union and Eastern Partnership face challenges”.

“As in the past we believe that expanding and deepening relations with a partner should not result in the emergence of new dividing lines. Armenia will continue its policy of complementing and harmonizing interests”, said the Armenian President.

At the joint press conference following the Summit of the EPP Eastern Partnership Leaders in Chisinau in July, 2013, Serzh Sargsyan said that EU’s Eastern Partnership “is an initiative aimed at creating cooperation not contradictions; it is not directed against any state or a group of states”.

“This partnership is aimed to finally overcome the dividing lines”, stressed Serzh Sargsyan.

Serzh Sargsyan also highlighted that “Armenia attaches special importance to stopping the policy of closed borders between the countries within the Eastern Partnership”. “After coming into force, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement won’t fully work if the Armenian-Turkish border remains closed,” noted the Armenian President.
