Yerevan/Mediamax/.  President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan answered Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s open letter.

The answer particularly reads:

“Thank you for the concerns you expressed in your February 17 open letter. I should directly say that I do not accept your evaluation of the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the Armenian Genocide. I do not accept it not because of its being the first document adopted after the independence and authored by the representatives of almost all structures and communities representing all Armenians and thus, truly being a unique symbol of national consolidation, but because a number of most professional experts of the spheres crossing the document, experts from all corners of the world were involved in the development process. These are people whose vocational skills I trust.

Hence, I obviously do not find your remarks on the possible conflicting aspects of the Declaration with the Armenian Constitution or international legal documents and other similar remarks grounded.

Since its establishment, the State Commission on the Coordination of the events for the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide Centennial has been adhering to the principle of uniting everyone and considering everyone’s opinions. Before April 24 and after it a number of addresses will be voiced, a number of statements will be developed, a number of letters will be written and various initiatives will be carried out. If there are still opinions and proposals that have for some reason not been jointly discussed, they should not be left out of that platform of unity and should be taken into account. In this regard, I believe your proposals should also be discussed. You noted there is a need for a tête-à-tête meeting to this end. I don’t mind it. Moreover, I find your reasons why such a meeting is impossible inappropriate.

Whenever you think there is a need for a private talk on Armenian Genocide Centennial events and whenever you do want it, I am ready to send a relevant invitation”.
