Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan opened the government session today with the statement that he applied to join the Republican Party of Armenia.

The Prime Minister noted that his decision is based on the fact that he was invited to work in the government by President of the Party and Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

Karen Karapetyan also pointed out the fact that every government should have a political foundation, and in this government the Republican Party performs as such.

Touching upon probable question on why not create a new party and make it the foundation of the government, the Prime Minister noted that while the NK issue is present, such actions are not justified.

According to Armenian PM, the reason to consider the Republican Party the political foundation is its preservance and the fact that “there are many people close to me” there.

“We believe it is necessary to make many changes in economy, social affairs and governing system, and we should begin the change from ourselves. This issue is stated in the Republican Party more clearly. By taking the position of Prime Minister, I became a part of the process of changing and being changed. The same as other parties, the Republican Party was not always efficient, but it is the party that decided to take the role of a changing subject, realizing the main problems of the country’s security,” the Prime Minister said.
