Yerevan/Mediamax/. Former Deputy Minister of National Security of Armenia Gurgen Yeghiazaryan is convinced that the adoption of the draft law “On Lustration” by the parliament will cause “a devastating blow” to the whole national security system of Armenia.

Gurgen Yeghiazaryan stated today that he strongly objects to any legislative initiatives related to lustration, Mediamax reports.

“This draft law is a real shame and its adoption will not benefit but harm us. Lustration of agents won’t do anything but harm”, said the former Deputy Minister.

Gurgen Yeghiazaryan stressed that the countries which adopted the law on lustration are mainly members of the European Union and which unlike Armenia don’t have any problems with border security.

In his turn, former MP of the Supreme Council of Armenia Albert Baghdasaryan who submitted a similar draft law to the parliament in 1992, stated that the “Heritage”’s version on lustration of agents is likely to be aimed at resolving some issues in the inner political dimension”.

Mediamax recalls that “Heritage” faction recently introduced a draft law “On Lustration”. “Heritage” suggest that the persons to have cooperated with the USSR KGB and other countries up to September 1991 be declassified, turn to the  relevant interdepartmental commission and get registered. The draft law envisages that these persons may not lay claims to the government positions in Armenia.
