Yerevan /Mediamax/. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has initiated amendments to the country’s constitution.

According to TASS, the President applied to the Constitutional Court for the conclusion of a draft referendum act.

In particular, it is proposed to amend article 101, which states that “the president is elected for a term of 5 years”.  The new wording is replacing the number 5 with number 7.

According to the draft, it is also proposed to amend the article that establishes that a citizen at least 35 years old can be elected as President. It is proposed to exclude “at least 35 years old” from the article.

The project also intends introduction for the post of First Vice President and Vice Presidents.

Last time Azerbaijan held constitutional referendum was in 2009. As a result of the referendum, the restriction on the election of the same person twice as President was removed.
