Yerevan, January 29. /Mediamax/. Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II said today by declaring April 24 the day marking the centenary of the Battle of Gallipoli Turkish authorities "pursue the overt aim to draw the attention of the international community away and to scale down the significance of the Armenian Genocide Centennial”.

The Catholicos of All Armenians stated it at the session of the State Commission on Coordination of the events dedicated to the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

“100 years after the Armenian Genocide, the justice toward the blood of our martyrs, our lost motherland, our sanctuaries and various destroyed values of our culture has not been restored, despite the fact the Armenian Genocide was recognized and condemned by a number of countries and authoritative organizations, to which our people are grateful. Our entire nation is looking forward to Turkey to join the countries that have recognized the Armenian Genocide and to confront its own history”, he said.

The Catholicos of All Armenians called on Armenians around the world to commit every effort to present the heavy implications that emerge from Turkey’s policy of denial.

“To a certain extent, atrocities disrupting the secure and regular life of people in the world “emanated” from the delay in the universal condemnation of the Armenian Genocide”, added Karekin II.

He recalled that the 2015 started with the “bright sacrament” of canonization of the Armenian Genocide martyrs.
