Kansas delegation pays tribute to Spitak earthquake victims in Armenia

Yerevan /Mediamax/. The delegation from U.S.Kansas state participated today in the events, dedicated to the commemoration of 30th anniversary of Spitak earthquake.

The delegation is led by  Governor of Kansas Jeff Colyer and Adjutant General of Kansas National Guard, Major General Lee E. Tafanelli.

 

Jeff Colyer passed the Armenian government the documents, according to which Kansas state declares December 6 as the day of partnership between Armenia and Kansas and December 7 - the day of Spitak earthquake commemoration.

 

Jeff Colyer’s ties with Armenia were established in 1988, when he was sent as representative of USAID Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) with the first American groups for providing food and first necessity supplies to survivors of the earthquake.

 

Kansas National Guard celebrates this year the 15th anniversary of partnership with Armenia.

 

A number of programs and exchanges have been implemented over these years in armed forces, emergency situations, law enforcement activities, business, healthcare, public health, education and humanitarian issues.
