Draft law on criminalizing Genocide denial submitted to Russian Duma

Yerevan /Mediamax/. The draft law criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial has been submitted to the Russian State Duma.

According to RIA Novosti, the draft law was submitted to State Duma by Spravedliavya Rossiya political party faction.

 

The new bill proposes to set a penalty of up to 300 rubles or forced labor/prison sentence of up to three years for public denial of the Armenian Genocide.

 

A Spravedliavya Rossiya leader Sergey Mironov said that the State Duma can consider the bill in upcoming days.

 

Mediamax recalls that Russian opposition activist Aleksey Navalny also suggested to use the Armenian Genocide issue in Russia’s retaliatory actions against Turkey.
