Yerevan/Mediamax/. Elections of local self-government institutions of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR), the 5th in number over the years of independence, are due to be held on September 18.
251 precincts are established within the republic’s territory and 34 out of them are located in Stepanakert, Mediamax was reported in the NKR CEC.
The elections are due to be held in 209 communities.
219 people are registered as candidates for the posts of heads of municipalities and 1220 people lay claim on membership in the Councils of Elders.
Three people are registered as candidates for the Stepanakert Mayor. Current Mayor of the capital Vazgen Mikayelyan decided not to take part in the elections.
