Yerevan, /Mediamax/. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated in Minsk today that the "historic document” on Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union membership "will give a start to a new phase of integration into the Eurasian space”.

Serzh Sargsyan stated it addressing a speech at the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

“I hope this day will be also marked by the completion of our joint work on Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union membership agreement. I am convinced this historic document will give a start to a new phase of integration into the Eurasian space. We are well aware of the special responsibility we are assuming by being the first to join the Agreement. I believe our joint efforts will enable us to effectively carry out the process of Armenia’s membership by minimizing the risks for our country and maximizing the overall gain”, said Serzh Sargsyan.

“The decision which provided a ground for Armenia’s full participation in the Eurasian integration process was passed by us accounted by the fact that we view the EEU as a core format for the development of relations that are predictable and most beneficial for our countries and are based on the principles of free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce. Of course, Armenia’s membership has its specifics - it’s the absence of common borders with the rest of EEU states. However, we are sure it will not impede Armenia’s integration into uniform regulating systems as well as transport, energy, telecommunications and financial systems to be set up in our common economic space”, said the Armenian President.
