Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan has called on protesters on Baghramyan Avenue “to refrain from anti-constitutional actions and not to whip up the situation.”

“Certain forces have appeared on Baghramyan Avenue whose real goal is not the rising electricity price but rather to create instability in the country and push our citizens into clashes. The latter have brought to the forefront unintelligible and improvident political bids and not the social or economic component of the issue.

We have expressed the readiness to involve experts and representatives of the civil society into this entire process. In this context, the protesters’ decision to illegally block Baghramyan Avenue is incomprehensible, especially when the group of protest initiators has stated they will continue their protest at Freedom square,” said the head of the government in the statement disseminated in the evening of June 28.

According to the PM, after getting a positive solution to the raised issue, the members of “No to Plunder” initiative demonstrated a high level of legal awareness, which complies with the interests of the community and the government.

“Reiterating the readiness of the authorities to resolve the issues through dialog and joint efforts, I once again call on our citizens continuing to protest on Baghramyan Avenue to refrain from anti-constitutional actions and not to whip up the situation. Any provocation towards the police is unacceptable – the police serve our country and our people and deserve the most respect,” said Hovik Abrahamyan.
