Yerevan /Mediamax/. The opening of new building of N6 music school reconstructed within the joint project of Mediamax, Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR) and Australian Do Something organization was held in Gyumri today.

"It's an unbelievable pleasure for me to be present at the opening of the school. The opening symbolizes rebirth of music. So now the pupils should make best use of the opportunities", said Deep Purple leader Ian Gillan.

"I was first involved in the project in 1990, and since then I have been impressed with a human image in the affected zone: an old woman holding the group photo of her whole family: the people in the picture were died during the earthquake. The woman couldn't even speak and I thought how to get over the grief. It was a dream for me to revive music in Gyumri", said Ian Gillan.

As a sign of gratitude, Director of N6 music school Harutyun Asatryan handed over Ian Gillan's portrait by artist Samvel Lachikyan to the Deep Purple frontman.

Executive Director of Do Something organization Jon Dee thanked Mediamax's Director Ara Tadevosyan noting that "nothing would happen without his efforts". He especially thanked Ian Gillan and Tony Iommi who had supported the project over 24 years, as well as Fund for Armenian Relief. ""Rock Aid Armenia" project started at a very sad moment but it ends with a very happy occasion", noted John Dee.

"It's hard to believe that there was nothing in place of the school some three years ago. We are happy that the children will have the chance to study and strive for excellence", noted representative of Mardigian family Hrant Mardigian.

Great Britain's Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Aves was also present in the opening ceremony. He granted an audiosystem to the school.

Pupils of the school gave a concert during the event. At the end of the solemn opening ceremony, all the participants of the project planted trees with the Armenian President in the school yard.
