ECtHR agrees to appeal “Perinçek v. Switzerland” decision

Yerevan /Mediamax/. The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) agreed to hear an appeal filed on “Perinçek v. Switzerland” case by the government of Switzerland of the court’s ruling in December.

As ECtHR official website reports, the case was referred to the Grand Chamber at the request of the Swiss Government.

 

Mediamax recalls that Turkish Labor Party Leader Dogu Perincek engaged in activities aimed at against the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide described the idea of the Armenian genocide as an “international lie” at a conference in Switzerland in 2005. The Swiss Court sentenced Perincek to a 90-day suspended jail term or to a fine amounting to CHF 3000. However, on December 17, 2013, the European Court of Human Rights satisfied Dogu Perincek’s suit against Switzerland stating that Switzerland has violated Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights – right to freedom of speech.
