Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian stated that the prevention of genocides requires the constant focus of the civilized world without subordinating it to geopolitical calculations.

He stated it addressing a speech at the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

“The destruction of Saint Martyrs Armenian Church in Deir el-Zor (Syria) by terrorists, which was a sanctuary for the remains of many victims, is a sorrowful but at the same time, symbolic link between the crimes committed against the humanity in the past and today”, said the Armenian FM.

Touching upon genocide prevention resolution submitted by Armenia he said that the Human Rights Council has played a crucial role in mainstreaming the commitments of countries emanating from the Genocide Convention into systematic protection of human rights and adoption of resolutions on prevention of genocides.

“This year Armenia has again initiated a genocide prevention resolution. There is an increasing consensus of the international community that the prevention of genocides requires constant attention and best efforts of the civilized world without subordinating the noble cause to geopolitical calculations. All members of the international community should stand together in their efforts to prevent the crime of genocide and we urge all member states to support the resolution in the same way as it was done two years ago”, said Edward Nalbandian.
