Yerevan /Mediamax/. Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Victor Khristenko stated that Armenia may sign an agreement on joining the Customs Union and Common Economic Space in 2014.

“Armenia's decision is the sovereign choice of the country. Moreover, it's not merely the political will of the country's leadership. The decision was bolstered with a very serious elaboration of the normative basis of the Customs Union. Jointly with our Armenian counterparts, huge work has been done over very short period of time. In late December, the roadmap containing 300 provisions was approved”, said Khristenko in his interview to Expert magazine.

He noted that Armenia’s not having a common border with the Customs Union states “is not a problem at all”.

“When Greece joined the European Union, it didn't have a common border with the EU either. Cyprus doesn't have a common border with EU, it's an island. Russia doesn't have a common border with Kaliningrad region, so what?”, said Victor Khristenko.

“Armenia has rather developed customs, phytosanitary infrastructures, system of laboratories supporting technical regulation. The state government system of our Armenian counterparts demonstrated high readiness to productive work and effectiveness over the period of our joint efforts. Many norms in Armenia advanced more than even in the Customs Union. And I don’t rule out that we will be able to integrate some of them into transnational legislation as more progressive ones”, said the Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
