Yerevan/Mediamax/. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland expressed the hope in Yerevan today that "there will be peace on the contact line with Nagorno Karabakh within upcoming days”.

Addressing a news conference today, Victoria Nuland said that she had expressed her concern over the tense situation on the conflict zone during her meetings with both Armenian and Azerbaijani leadership.

“We want peace and direct negotiations. The Minsk Group Co-Chairs spoke about it, and during my meetings with Presidents Aliyev and Sargsyan, I also talked about the need for stopping bloodshed which is not beneficial to either of parties. I think in terms of this visit, we made progress in both capitals, and there will be peace on the contact line within upcoming days for the benefit of all the servicemen and their families”, said Victoria Nuland.

Touching upon the issue of the accused Azerbaijani subversives, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State said that despite “the horrible crime”, the U.S. called upon the competent bodies to “take a humanitarian step”.
