NKR Defense Army was attacked by the rival’s unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) during recent military actions in April. Azerbaijan bought some of the drones from Israel. According to official data, the rival lost total 15 UAVs in Artsakh sky recent days. Armenian scientists are developing new air defense systems to detect rival’s UAVs and counteract them timely in the future.

Director of Yerevan Telecommunication Research Institute (YeTri), Doctor of Technical Sciences Mher Markosyan told Mediamax that the institute currently cooperates with a number of other companies to develop a special radiolocation station that will detect UAVs at the contact line or trespassing the state borders.

“UAVs are usually made of composite material (plastic, paper, different metals, etc.) that are difficult to find on certain frequencies by present location stations. Armenia has scientific potential to create devices that will detect and neutralize the rival’s intelligence and impact drones. The term “neutralize” means here to destroy physically, interrupt connection with the controller or provide incorrect information. We are working in all directions, tasks have been divided between several scientific research groups,” said Mher Markosyan.

YeTri President informed Mediamax that upon preparing a model of location station for detecting UAVs, they will apply to Armenian Defense Ministry with an installation offer.
