Yerevan /Mediamax/. The OSCE Minsk Group American Co-Chair James Warlick stated today that Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan should display political will in realization of the agreements reached in Vienna and St. Petersburg.

James Warlick made this statement at the meeting with the press in Yerevan.

“There was an opportunity to discuss a number of issues and further steps in Vienna and St. Petersburg. The fact is that presidents of both republics agreed that the final settlement of the issue can be achieved only in a peaceful way,” American Co-Chair said.

According to James Warlick, one of the goals of the Co-Chairs’ visit is to discuss “certain details” of realization of these agreements with the presidents.

“We hope that the dialogue will extend, and the presidents will be able to meet and continue discussion as soon as possible,” American official said, stressing that the date of the meeting is to be set yet.

Touching upon Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest statement that “Nagorno-Karabakh can become an autonomous republic within Azerbaijan”, American Co-Chair said, “We welcome this statement of President Aliyev not because it is his final decision, but because it pushes the issue forward. We should begin an honest discussion on the status of NK with the public in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.”

Speaking about the claims that the Co-Chairs pressure the parties of the conflict, James Warlick said that they are “mediators” and have no such mandate.
