Yerevan /Mediamax/. Former Foreign Minister of Armenia, MP of Armenian National Assembly Alexander Arzumanyan said today that Armenia ''has decided to voluntarily join an economic structure which is sanctioned by West''.
''Currently, when our partner Russia is in isolation and there is no chance that it may start a constructive dialogue with the West, we are going to join a union which is sanctioned. We voluntarily pursue the path to these sanctions'', former Armenian FM said this during the discussion on ''What Do We Know about Our Foreign Policy Options?''.
According to him, democratic Russia used to be a strategic partner for Armenia in past.
''We were strategic partners with Yeltsin's government which led Russia to the direction predictable for us, which had excellent relations with the EU and NATO. It was a different Russia. We have adopted the European model of statehood which was based on free economy, human rights and rule of law. The model which is functioning in the Customs Union is a Soviet model of state of force'', noted Alexander Arzumanyan.
