Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that “Armenian community in Syria is on the edge of destruction”.

Armenian President stated this at the meeting with representatives of the U.S. East Coast Armenian community in Boston.

“Unfortunately, impunity causes new crimes against humanity, which we witness in our neighboring Middle East. Armenian Diaspora in Syria is standing on the edge of destruction today, Armenian historical and cultural values are being destroyed and robbed. This is a test that we should face together. We all should take action - the state, Diaspora, all our communities.

I assure you that Armenian government does everything possible to provide respectable life for almost 20,000 Syrian Armenians who found shelter in their homeland. We immediately grant them Armenian citizenship, assist them with free education, medical aid, help them found their own businesses and settle in Armenia. I am glad that American Armenian Diaspora organizes regular TV marathons and fundraisings for Syrian Armenians, and those donations help essentially ease everyday struggles of our compatriots not only in Syria but also in countries where they escaped to.

Let us unite to help the majority of them stay in Armenia. Of course, the destruction of Armenian Diaspora in Middle East is disastrous for us. However, it will be lesser evil if the majority of that Diaspora settles in Armenia. It will console us to some measure. Although the loss of this blooming colony is truly painful for us, we should do everything possible for the refugees to move to Armenia,” said Armenian President.
