Yerevan/Mediamax/. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with representatives of the Syrian Armenian community and a number of Armenian organizations, as well as benefactors and officials working with the community’s issues.

Armenian Presidential press service informed that President Sargsyan invited the participants to the meeting yesterday to discuss new ideas and projects of assistance, and to get familiar directly with the latest developments in Syria and current needs of the Armenian community.

“Unfortunately, it has been a long time that Syria and Aleppo especially have been talked about in international media because of tragic incidents happening there. For us, Armenians, Syria and Aleppo are not just familiar names, as is the case for many others, but a country, a place where our compatriots live. For that reason our Consulate General is still working in Aleppo, while diplomats from other countries left the city a long time ago.

I can say at the same time that this has been and remains our attitude – all Syrian Armenians have the right to come to Armenia, and moreover, if they do leave Syria, it is desirable that they come to Armenia. We are ready to do everything possible to create at least minimal conditions so that these people are able to integrate in our community in time and solve their own issues,” President Sargsyan said.

Beria Diocese Primate Father Shahan Archbishop Sarkissian and other participants of the meeting presented their suggestions regarding joint support for the Syrian Armenian community.
