Yerevan /Mediamax/. Russia will supply $ 700 mln-$ - $ 1bln arms to Azerbaijan, writes “Vedomosti” newspaper today quoting sources of Russian defense industry.

According to the sources of “Vedomosti”, contracts for 94 T-90S tanks, about 100 infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3, 18 Msta-S artillery guns, 18 Smerch multiple rocket launchers, 16 Vena artillery guns are concerned.

The newspaper notes that it's not the first large package of arms contracts between Russia and Azerbaijan. According to the newspaper's information, contracts at a total amount of about $ 3bln were concluded and implemented over 2010-2011.

“Any Russian supplies of arms to Azerbaijan cause a nervous and painful response in Armenia - not only in the society but the elite - but their reaction doesn't consider the fact that Armenia purchases arms from Russia at domestic Russian rates and supplies of arms to Armenia are in balance with Russia's sales to Azerbaijan, Russian expert Alexander Krilov says. Supplies to Azerbaijan allow Russia to maintain the influence on the country and reduce Baku's purchases on the international market. In this situation, we may draw an analogy with the U.S. and NATO countries’ policy who supply large portions of arms to Egypt and Israel, Greece and Turkey: these country’s dependence from one supplier allows U.S. and West to restrain conflicts between the customers, expert of Center for Analysis of Strategy and Technologies Konstantin Makienko says”, writes “Vedomosti”.
