Yerevan /Mediamax/. The South Dakota (U.S. state) House of Representatives passed a resolution on recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide.

The resolution was passed on February 26, in a vote of 51 to 17. It recognizes and condemns the denial of genocides of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians and encourages the teaching of the Armenian Genocide in South Dakota schools, Asbarez reports.

“Designating 2015 as the year of remembrance for the centennial of the Armenian Genocide in South Dakota, we urge Congress and the President of the United States to formally and consistently recognize and reaffirm the historical truth that the atrocities committed against the Armenian, Greek, and other Christians living in their historical homelands in Anatolia constituted genocide. We urge to work towards equitable, stable and durable Armenian-Turkish relations,” reads the text of the resolution.

Thus, South Dakota is the 43rd U.S. state to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
