Yerevan/Mediamax/. Co-Chair of Aurora Prize Selection Committee George Clooney explained why his wife Amal didn’t came to Yerevan with him.
“She is visiting White House today [April 22] and then will meet with Senator McCain and others. She is representing a woman named Khadija [Ismayilova] - she is a reporter who has been jailed in Azerbaijan for telling the truth quite honestly. And she’s there trying to find ways to get this incredible, brilliant reporter set free, because my wife really believes that telling the truth shouldn’t put you in jail. That’s where she is right now”, George Clooney told in an interview to A1Plus and Armenia TV companies recorded on April 22 in Yerevan and broadcasted on April 23.
“She was really disappointed because we were looking forward to it. She’s gone after the Government of the Maldives, for instance, to get the former President released, and he was. It was a big success for her, but that means we can’t go to the Maldives anymore. So we’re starting to run out of places to go”, George Clooney joked.
George Clooney is the Co-Chair Co-Chair of Aurora Prize Selection Committee. The awarding ceremony will take place in Yerevan on April 24, 2016.
