Yerevan /Mediamax/. Chairman of the Presidium of the Russian Council on Foreign and Defense Policy Fedor Lukyanov thinks that the EU’s policy to former Soviet Union republics will continue but not within Eastern Partnership.

Speaking at “Caucasus 2013” international conference in Yerevan today, the Russian political scientist said that the EU failed its mission within Eastern Partnership and “now it should fundamentally reconsider what it may and will do”.

“Brussels should seek a new approach or put up with the role of the junior partner of the U.S.”, said Fedor Lukyanov.

Speaking on the process of Eurasian integration, Fedor Lukyanov noted that it’s an attempt of self-identification, Russia’s attempt to understand “who it is and what countries are with it”.

“Ukraine was “the major skirmish”, and as long as it was not clear yet how it would end the Armenian factor became a critical one for the Russian leadership. The Armenian direction was the main one and Russia contributed to the choice in every way possible (ed.- Armenia’s choice in favor of Customs Union), and undertook extra commitments which can’t break now”, stressed the Russian expert.

According to him, Russia and U.S. are currently in a state similar to “Cold War”.

“That means that the countries which have had the opportunity to pursue multi-vector policy will perhaps be deprived of this opportunity soon. It’s impossible to maneuver  without end. It’s hard to say now how much Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are ready for the final choice”, he stressed.
