Yerevan/Mediamax/. US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills said that Armenia "needs to improve its image” to attract international investors.

The Ambassador said this in an interview with Mediamax.

“International businesses will only invest where they see economic and political stability and where they know they will be protected by the rule of law,” Richard Mills said.

According to the Ambassador, to improve its image to attract international investment, Armenia needs to strengthen its enforcement of intellectual property rights, create a business level-playing field especially in sectors of the economy controlled by politically-connected business people.

“It is necessary to tackle corruption in critical areas such as the judiciary and tax and customs operations including ensuring transparent customs valuation, classification, and audit regimes,” Richard Mills noted.

The Ambassador stressed that there are opportunities for U.S. investors in Armenia, just as there are opportunities for Armenian companies to do business in the United States.
