Yerevan/Mediamax/. Former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan has written an op-ed titled “Why Armenia’s prime minister is a threat to rule of law” for Euractiv.com.

Euractiv.com points out that Kocharyan “sent this op-ed from prison”.

The former president writes in the lengthy op-ed that he continues to be held in prison unlawfully.

“I am being held in prison unlawfully because I am an opposition politician, critical of Nikol Pashinyan’s unrestrained populism,” claims Kocharyan.

He recalls the Nikol Pashinyan was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment after the events of March 1, 2008.

“I call on the leaders of the Council of Europe and of the European Union to stand by my side, and demand the full and strict compliance by Armenian authorities to International Human Rights standards, including a fair trial and protection from discrimination,” Kocharyan said in the op-ed.
